Sleep is the key to weight loss.

By Editor Feb 13, 2021

A single-center randomized clinical trial showed that sleep was linked with fewer calories consumed.

Compared with controls, young adults who were overweight and habitually slept less than 6.5 hours a night slept an extra 1.2 hours on average after a sleep counseling intervention and took in 270 fewer kcal/day. 270 kcal per day has the potential to translate to a 2-pound loss per month.

According to the authors of this study, adequate sleep duration could be a game-changer in our battle with the obesity epidemic as a society. Esra Tasali, MD, and the team at the University of Chicago conducted the study.
