Researchers may have found a cure for chronic leukemia — more studies to follow.

Treatment with chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy resulted in remissions of more than 10 years in two chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients. Eary test patient received CAR T cells in 2010. A week after the infusion, the research team could not detect cancer cells in the patient’s system. A further test revealed that bone marrow is entirely free of CLL. The research team kept track of the patients, and after 10 years, they were ready to call it a cure.

The study is published in Nature magazine.
