A distinguished cardiologist named Dr. Sudhir Prem Srivastava first recognised the need for an Indian-made surgical robot that may open the door to a more promising future in healthcare back in 2011.

Medtech startup SS Innovations has entered the international market by acquiring a majority interest in Avra Medical Robotics, a US business listed on the Nasdaq, ushering in a new era of robotic surgery.
And with this, South Asia’s first surgical robot made in India has entered the world market.

Novel surgical techniques in India
Since 90% of the Da Vinci robotic systems were utilised by doctors in the US and Japan, Dr. Srivastava, who developed on the system, wanted to create a tool that was both affordable and available in India.
In fact, the specialist claimed that just 140 robotic systems had been developed in India in the previous 20 years after working on his initial process in the US in 2002.
Robotic surgery has entered a new era in India thanks to Dr. Sudhir P. Srivastava’s invention, SSI Mantra, which has made the treatment more widely available and reasonably priced for citizens of our nation.
An official declaration declared that everyone would have access to high-quality healthcare instead of it being a privilege for a select few.
Dr. Srivastava, who trained over 350 teams in robotic surgery, said that after carrying out 1,400 cardiac operations with the Da Vinci system and assembling a team of young engineers, whose average age was 26 to 27, they developed a system that is superior to the Da Vinci one since it costs less.
On discussing the difficulties he had, Dr. Srivastava claimed that after using all of his savings to develop the surgical robot, he eventually secured funding years later, and in 2017 the first system made in India was built.
Building a system at home might “revolutionise the acceptance and availability of robotic systems by hospitals and the community in healthcare,” the author claimed.
Surgery with incredibly high precision
The modular design of the Indian surgical robot, which has more than 5 detachable arms, can be useful even during heart surgery.
In the console station, which has a 32-inch monitor and 3D vision, the surgeon is seated. Also, it has a safety camera that can recognise the doctor’s presence. The operation will automatically stop if the doctor turns away. Hence, the physician is in total command.
The father of robotic surgery, Dr. Frederic Moll, emphasised the significance of robotic surgery and its several advantages over more conventional surgical techniques. He expressed his enormous excitement at being present to see the advancement and creation of a new robotic system, which he believe will significantly improve access to healthcare in the area of medical surgery.
